This key is cribbed, almost verbatim, from Alwyn Gentry's incomparable book A Field Guide to the Families and Genera of Woody Plants of Northwest South America. This greatly simplified key includes only taxa likely to be found in the vicinity of Manu. It focuses on the species found in lowland floodplain (varzea) forest, but also includes taxa from upland, never-flooded terra-firme forest. It is written, for the most part to the family level, but individually distinctive genera and species are also included.
